April 11, 2006 Special meeting minutes

     A special meeting of the Ward County Commission was called to order by Chairman Gruenberg at 5:30 pm with Comms. Watne, Erickson and Lee present.  Also present were Auditor/Treasurer Devra Smestad, County Engineer Roger Kluck, State's Attorney John Van Grinsven, and Emergency Manager Al Reynolds.

       Also present were Minot Rural Fire Chief Rex Weltikol, Burlington Fire Chief Ron Holte and Burlington Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Archer. 

      Chairman Gruenberg explained the meeting was called to possibly place a burning ban in effect due to the extreme dry conditions in Ward County. 

      Van Grinsven appeared to inform the Board that under NDCC 37-17.1-10, the executive officer has the authority to declare an emergency ban for up to seven days without approval of the Board. 

      Reynolds appeared to inform the Board that he had spoken with the State Fire Marshall who said there could be absolutely no burning during the ban. 

      Chairman Gruenberg declared a burning ban until seven days pass (April 18, 2006) or a notice is given by the Minot Rural Fire Chief and signed a proclamation banning burning in Ward County (a full and complete copy of which is available for review in the County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office) 

      The ban will be discussed during the regular Commission meeting on April 18, 2006. 

            With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
