October 22, 2007 Special Meeting

Chairman Watne called the special meeting of the Ward County Board of Commissioners to order at 12:30 p.m. with the following members present: Comms. Erickson and Lee. Also present were Auditor/Treasurer Devra Smestad; State's Attorney John Van Grinsven; County Engineer Roger Kluck; and Assistant County Engineer Dana Larsen.

 

Smestad explained that with LUCA – Local Updated Census Addresses – Ward County has to identify, review and update jurisdiction boundaries and make necessary corrections to the number of houses per census block. She informed the Board that Ward County was given three options to receive this information: all digital; digital and paper; or all paper.

 

Kluck and Larsen appeared for comment and explained that since Ward County has the GIS system for mapping, they would prefer the all digital format to compare the maps.

 

Smestad explained that it was important to make sure all the houses are properly identified for the 2010 census, as an accurate number ensures Ward County receives all state and federal dollars allocated by population.

 

It was then moved by Comm. Erickson, seconded by Comm. Lee to authorize Ward County to register participants in the LUCA program using an all digital format of the information to provide correct mapping and address lists. Roll call: all present voted yes; motion carried.

At 12:47 p.m. with no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
