September 25, 2007 Special meeting

The Commissioners met as a Building Committee on Tuesday, September 25, 2007.  Chairman Watne called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. with Commissioners Fjeldahl, Gruenberg, Erickson and Lee present. Also present were the following department heads: Devra Smestad, Roger Kluck, John Van Grinsven, Mike Rose, Sheila Dalen, Jodi Johnson, Jan Murphy and Gail Slinde.

 

Chairman Watne explained that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed building plans for the lot north of the courthouse.

 

Chairman Watne questioned if the County Engineer should continue to be utilized on the project. Kluck appeared to comment that he would continue with technical decisions, but would not be involved in any other decision making. Comm. Lee commented that he feels the Engineer has enough to do without being involved with the building project.

 

Discussion was then held on which offices would move to the proposed building and utilizing current storage area in the courthouse for possible office expansion. With Rose, Kluck and Van Grinsven appearing for comment and after much discussion it was moved by Comm. Lee, seconded by Comm. Watne to have the architect review all available storage space in the courthouse and determine if it could be utilized for offices. Roll call: all voted yes; motion carried.

 

Comms. Watne and Lee volunteered to work with the architect on this project. A time of 1:00 p.m. Friday September 28 was set to meet with the architect.

 

Comm. Fjeldahl questioned if the Board had voted on a motion for an election to approve the proposed office building. Smestad informed the Board that the motion to have an election this fall had been rescinded and no other motion had been made. Chairman Watne explained that until a plan could be agreed upon there would be no reason to have an election.

 

At 8:53 a.m. with no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
