Joint Board of Ward, Burke, Renville and Mountrail County Commissioners

Special Meeting December 16, 2009

 

The special meeting of the Joint Board of Ward, Burke, Renville and Mountrail County Commissioners was called to order at 7:00 pm by Ward County Commissioner Vice Chairman Gruenberg. Present were Ward County Comms. Erickson, Fjeldahl and Nybakken; Renville County Comms. Cameron and Preskey; Burke County Comm. Nelson; and Mountrail County Comms. Boschee and Hynek.  The purpose of the meeting was to hear public input about the development of the Kenmare Rural Fire Protection District.

 

Following public input, it was moved by Comm. Fjeldahl, seconded by Comm. Hynek to approve the following resolution:

 

WHEREAS, petitions were filed in the office of the auditor’s office of Ward County, North Dakota, requesting the establishment of the Kenmare Rural Fire Protection District; and,

 

WHEREAS, Devra Smestad, County Auditor/Treasurer of Ward County along with Jeanie Jensen, Auditor of Burke County; Joan Hollekim, Auditor of Mountrail County and LeAnn Fisher, Auditor/Treasurer of Renville County have determined and certified that said petitions and signatures thereon comply with the requirements of the law in all respects and has designated December 16, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the Kenmare City Hall Gymnasium as the time and place for a hearing before the Joint Board of Commissioners; and,

 

WHEREAS, at the time and place so fixed, this Joint Board met and gave opportunity for all persons residing in or owning taxable property within the above described boundaries to be heard regarding the formation of such district and the boundaries of it; and,

 

WHEREAS, careful consideration has been given to said petitions and the testimony given at the hearing;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the establishment of the Kenmare Rural Fire Protection District would be in the public interest and suited to the general fire protection policy of the county as a whole;

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the District will consist of all or part of organized Townships in Ward, Burke, Mountrail and Renville Counties, more particularly described as follows:

 

Ward County: Denmark Twp, sections 1-36; Elmdale Twp, sections 1-36 (including the town of Niobe); Spencer Twp, sections 1-36 (including the town of Kenaston); Baden Twp, sections 1-36; Kenmare Twp, sections 1-36 (excluding the city of Kenmare); Saul Prairie Twp, sections 3-10, 15-22, and 27-34. Burke County: Kandiyohi Twp, sections 1-36; Roseland Twp, sections 1-36; Lakeview Twp, approximately 50 sections. Renville County: Rockford Twp, sections 1-36; Fairbanks Twp, sections 1-36 (including the town of Norma). Mountrail County: Sidonia Twp, sections 1-36; Crowfoot Twp, sections 1-36 and Lowland Twp, sections 1-12 and 15-20.  The area consists of approximately 488 square miles of real property;

 

AND BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT the County Auditor/Treasurer of Ward County is directed to designate a time and place for a public meeting of all electors residing in and owning taxable property within the above described boundaries for the final organization of the District.

 

The motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.

 

Ward County Auditor/Treasurer Smestad set the next meeting for the final organization of the District for January 13 at 7:00 pm at the Kenmare City Hall Gymnasium.

 

Hearing no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
