June 2, 2009 County Board of Equalization minutes

The meeting of the Ward County Board of Equalization was called to order by Vice-Chairman Gruenberg at 10:01 a.m. with Comms. Fjeldahl, Erickson and Nybakken present. Also present was Auditor/Treasurer Devra Smestad; Director of Tax Equalization Mike Vendsel; and Minot City Assessor Kevin Ternes.

 

Appearing for comment regarding the 2009 valuations of their homes were: Johnnie & Shirley Gorthy, 1200 33^rd Ave SW, Minot; Dwight Ormiston, 2409 Brookside Dr, Minot; Mark V Larson representing Swenson & Sons LLP, Surrey Township; David Rothchild, 34 Rolling Hills Dr, Minot; Shane Lemer, Mandan Township Assessor and Mark Knudsvig, Mandan Township Supervisor; Mary Hauf, 516 9^th Ave NE, Minot; Jana Nelson, 3122 4^th St SW, Minot; Brian Amundston, 5821 5^th Ave SW, Minot; Carol Berg, 2508 Brookside Dr, Minot; Terry Davidson, 201 37^th Ave SW, Minot; Mick Kossen, Central Power Cooperative, 525 20^th Ave SW, Minot; and Kelly Drevecky, 700 Harmony St NW, Minot. Also appearing were Vendsel and Ternes.

 

Ternes requested that any further action as the Board of Equalization take place at the July 7 meeting.

 

At 10:49 a.m. the Board of Equalization recessed.

 

At 11:44 a.m. the Board of Equalization reconvened with Comms. Gruenberg, Fjeldahl, Erickson and Nybakken present. Also present were Smestad and Vendsel.

 

It was moved by Comm. Nybakken, seconded by Comm. Erickson to accept the following: 1) approve the assessment roll for Township 151-83 (formerly Rushville Township); 2) increase the residential values of Berthold City by 12 percent as recommended by the 2008 sales study; 3) increase agricultural land values by 1 percent plus the additional 4 percent approved by the Commissioners on May 19, 2009 and increase residential values by 7.5 percent in Mandan Township; and 4) increase the agricultural land values by 1 percent plus the additional 4 percent approved by the Commissioners on May 19, 2009 for Hiddenwood and Surrey Townships. Roll call vote: all present voted yes; motion carried.

 

At 11:45 a.m. the Board of Equalization recessed until July 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
