Public Hearing

 

The public hearing of the Ward County Commission was called to order by Chairman Fjeldahl at 7:00 pm with Comms. Christianson, Erickson and Nybakken present. Also present were States Attorney Roza Larson, Highway Engineer Dana Larsen and Auditor/Treasurer Devra Smestad.

 

Comm. Christianson stated that the purpose of this meeting was to hear public input on the 2013 Proposed Ward County Budget.

 

Auditor/Treasurer Devra Smestad addressed changes that have been made to the budget. These changes are in the following departments or line items: Social Services (decrease), Library (increase), and Health Insurance (decrease). The total proposed 2013 budget is now $15,824,794, which is an increase from 2012, which was $13,270,000.

 

At 7:07 p.m. Comm. Fjeldahl opened the Public Hearing.

 

Jim Lee, a resident from Newman Township appeared. Lee asked questions to the Commission comparing the 2012 to the 2013 mill levy and the property valuations.

With no further public comments, moved by Comm. Christianson, seconded by Comm. Nybakken to close the public hearing. Roll call: all voted yes: motion carried

Smestad asked if there were any other recommendations or adjustments to the proposed budget.

Moved by Comm. Fjeldahl to adjust the Department head raises from 7½% to 5% and all other staff from the 9% to 7½%. Motion failed due to lack of a second.

 

With no further recommendations or adjustments, at 7:21 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.
