June 17th Flash Flood Disaster

Ward County has been included in Presidential Disaster 1907, qualifying county jurisdictions for Federal Disaster assistance funding for damages to ifrastructure due to flooding (wind damage does not qualify)
Unfortunately, there will be no assistance to homeowners (Individual Assistance or I.A) from FEMA for this disaster as we did not reach the minimum damage estimate (100 homes heavily damaged or destroyed) to qualify.

The Ward County Emergency Management Department is open from 8:00a - 4:30p, Monday through Friday. This office is located in the basement of the Ward County Courthouse.
MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Ward County Emergency Management Department is to coordinate and facilitate resources to minimize the impact of major emergencies and disasters on people, property and the environment.
DESCRIPTION: The Emergency Management Department is responsible for:
- Performing technical work in the development, implementation, and management of countywide disaster prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation and risk reduction.
- Working with the Ward County Emergency Resource Council (a group of individuals representing A CROSS-SECTION OF Government, first response, business and private citizens) to develop and maintain the Ward County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan and the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) which defines agencies roles and responsibilities and also includes the evacuation, sheltering, warning and terrorism annex.
- Organization and operation of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and coordinating support from State and Federal organizations during an emergency.
- Providing countywide training and exercises in order to be prepared for local, regional, and state emergencies to include classroom based training in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) for all personnel who may be involved in disaster response and recovery activities.
- Administering the State Homeland Security Grant Program funds (SHSP) at the direction of the Ward County Emergency Resource Council Steering Committee, a representative group given legal authority by the Ward County Commission to expend these funds.
- Providing guidance to municipalities on the development of disaster management plans.
