Superintendent of Schools

Ward County Superintendent of Schools coordinates and facilitates events, training and information regarding all schools within Ward County.

Responsibilities

The Superintendent of Schools Department is responsible for:
  • Prepares legal documentation to change school lines, close schools, divide school assets and determine school lines which is referred to annexation, dissolution or reorganization.
  • Maintaining School District lines of all school districts located in Ward County.
  • Working with other departments representing the school's interest.
  • Providing training for all bus drivers and coordinating inspections of all school buses within Ward County.
  • Providing guidance to the public regarding school law.
  • Acting as the agent to provide supervision and permanent record to all school board elections.
  • Coordinating and facilitating the MATHCOUNTS and Spelling Bee competitions..
  • Assisting patrons in retrieving school records
  • Receive, review and record teacher contracts
  • Distribution of oil and gas monies to schools
  • Provide information to school boards regarding comparisons of school districts within Ward County in an annual report
History of Office
Historically the Ward County Superintendent of Schools' Office was the administrative office for the many one room school houses scattered across the county.  As the county grew individual school districts formed and school boards became the governing board of the school district.  As a result the office duties changed to  coordinating and facilitating information that effects all schools in the county.
