North Dakota Veterans Cemetery
General Information
The cemetery office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday, except on state holidays. The cemetery gates are open to visitors at any time. All committal services in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery are conducted in our Interment Building unless the cemetery director approves other arrangements. Arrangements for pallbearers, military honors, and religious services are to be made by you or the next of kin. The cemetery is not able to provide any of these services, however we are able to provide a list for veteran service organizations (AP3) that perform military funeral honors.
Scheduling of Interments
Requests for interment should be made at the earliest possible date. In cases where services of a funeral director are not involved, the next of kin's personal representative needs to contact the cemetery representative for scheduling.
We schedule interments in one-hour intervals, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST. Please contact our office for available times.
We recommend if you feel the church service may exceed 45 minutes to one hour that you schedule the church service on the half hour. This will allow you adequate time to arrive for your scheduled service on the hour.
Determination of Eligibility
All interments require verification of the eligibility of the veteran, national guardsman, reservist, spouse or dependent. Your assistance in obtaining required information is essential. When you receive an inquiry into burial at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery you should inform the person making the inquiry of the necessity of obtaining correct military information and request that they provide source documents. Authorized documents are a copy of his/her discharge (DD214 or its equivalent). This document must verify that the service member received an honorable, under honorable conditions, or general discharge. If neither of these documents are available, please contact our office immediately.
We will assist in verifying the individual’s eligibility and notify you accordingly. An interment may not take place if verification is not available or if a valid discharge is not in our possession at the time of the scheduled interment. Should a funeral cortege arrive at the cemetery prior to verification of eligibility for interment, a committal service will be permitted if desired by the family. The remains, however, will not be interred and must be removed from the cemetery until eligibility has been verified. We will contact the funeral home if a problem in verification arises so that the next of kin may be informed of the problem and avoid any possible delay.
