Foster care provides a safe, secure environment for a youth until the youth can return home or until a permanent home is found.
Types of Foster Parenting
There are various ways foster parents can help. They may choose to do emergency placement only, which is typically 3-5 days; respite care which is up to 30 days, short term care 0-6 months, or longer term care which may be up to a couple of years.

Provisions
Foster parents are provided with a monthly stipend, paid medical and dental for foster children, paid childcare for foster children if the foster parents work, clothing allowances and much more.
Basic Qualifications to Be a Licensed Foster Parent / Home
- You must be at least 21 years of age
- You must be financially stable
- You can be either single or married
- You must own or rent a home or apartment
- You must have homeowners or renter's insurance
- You must have adequate space for a child
- You must be aware that foster care is usually temporary
- You must have ability to work as a team with social workers & other service providers
- You must have ability to understand and show acceptance of the child's parents
- You must have a clear background check
- You must be able to provide personal references
